"HOBO MONEY"
CARVED 1911 LINCOLN CENT
Signed: MLESA
Dated: APRIL 24 1928
Here is an interesting find, discovered in an old blue paper and cardboard Whitman Lincoln Cent coin album. It is a carved 1911 Lincoln cent with much of Lincoln's hair detail removed reshaping the head, the bow tie is gone and replaced with a necktie, the beard on his chin has been removed, the jacket collar has been narrowed, much has been removed from the front of the bust, a shirt collar has been added, and Lincoln has a nose job.
In addition, the carver signed and dated the piece, thus:

MLESA
APRIL 24
1928

It appears to have seen some circulation after the carving. The reverse of the coin grades VG.
This is more than just a few scratches made on the coin. It is an actual carving by someone with a bit of skill. Hard to believe this could be the only piece by this carver.
